Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the hottest ticket in town, with everyone looking to snag a ticket to the show. But equally, just as AI has its proponents, it has those that call for the regulation of the industry that wields the potential to not only reshape industries, but perhaps the face of humanity as we know it.
Every country is looking to have its own set of rules, which mirrors the protectionist views of economies around the world, and potentially lead to further fragmentation, which has become a major motif of the global tech market. The EU has by far the strictest rules around AI, with the Chinese not far off. However, with China’s gaze more inward-looking, it is not expected that their regulations will impact the globe since it is geared towards keeping control firmly in the grip of the ruling CCP. The USA, by contrast, favours innovation and that has stymied any kind of regulation. India has called for a global framework, but it remains to be seen who answers the clarion call.
