Ever feared a future where computers become sentient and start to revolt against the human race? We’re here to tell you we’re only a few steps removed from your worst fears coming true. At a ‘show and tell’ event in late November, Elon Musk said that his brain-computer interface company, Neuralink, was working on possibly implanting one of its devices in someone’s head within the next six months, while also professing a desire to implant the device in his own head at some point in the future.
While previous field trials, have seen Neuralink implant their chips in pigs and monkeys, even going so far as to demo a monkey playing ‘Pong’ by using one of its implants, human clinical trials have not been conducted so far as approval from the Food and Drug Administration was awaited. That could all change in 2023.
Neuralink’s goal is to create a device that can be implanted in the brain, and use it to control a computer with brain activity. We can’t wait to lazily browse through Netflix and find nothing worth watching, all without raising a finger to flick through its library.
